Early childhood is a wide window of opportunity for instilling mathematical skills that will last a lifetime. With the use of creative toys, a child can learn to refine mental processes and fine motor skills while having fun in the sanctity of the home or school. Studies show that children learn the most when they are having a good time. Toys with rich shapes and colors make it easy for early life lessons to soak into the fresh wrinkles of a child’s brain. Here are just a few examples of the classic maths toys that make it easy for children to get a head start in learning mathematical skills.

Shape Games
For children under five years old, most colorful toys involve the use of geometry and hand eye coordination. The classic toy in which a child must match a square peg with a square hole, and so on, helps a child recognize shapes early on. Building blocks help develop planning skills, vision, and creativity. Children love to create and be in control of their world, and rewarding these skills builds self esteem. When children destroy their own building block creations, they examine cause and effect.

Jigsaw Puzzles
Jigsaw puzzles, whether they are made up of five parts of two hundred and five, are great maths toys for all age groups. The whole family or classroom can contribute to a very complicated puzzle, which can even be glued, mounted, and framed afterward. Puzzles are great to stimulate brain activity even for those who are in old age, but they are especially useful for developing problem solving techniques in those of use who are younger.

Board Games.
Simple board maths games are a fantastic way to hide simple addition in a fun family or school activity. Board games in which steps are taken based on rolled dice require the child to add the values of the rolled dice faces if there are multiple die, and then to count the steps to take on the game board. This is a great weekly activity that brings families together, and it can also connect groups of children in a classroom on spare time. This activity also teaches competitive skills, such as winning or losing gracefully and getting along with others.

Cash Registers
Toy cash registers make incredible maths toys as children learn the joys of capitalism when buying and selling with their peers. Children absolutely love to imitate adults, and taking them along on grocery and shopping trips will make them even more likely to engage ins shopping games. Budgeting and careful spending are important habits that can be encouraged early on. Aid your child in counting the paper money and calculating the costs of plastic fruits and vegetables. When your child is older, you can have them help you calculate the costs of real groceries and products, and calculate the tip when they learn fractions and percentages.

Dominoes
Slightly older children will love the sophisticated game of dominoes. Classic and forever classy, this simple maths toys game is easy to learn and a hit with families everywhere. Children must match up sides of dominoes with the same number of dots. This enforces quick counting skills that are required for everyday life. Concentration and good sportsmanship is reinforced, and anyone can be a winner.

Foam/Magnet Numbers And Letters
We all remember these childhood staples. Just about everyone has had a set of numbers and letters to practice spelling and writing messages on the refrigerator. These types of toys bring scholarly skills into everyday life and help a child express him or herself in a new way. Bring foam numbers and letters in if there is no space for a magnetic set- they work well on tables, and some are specially designed to work in bath tubs.

Playing Cards
Every house and classroom should have a set of playing cards somewhere. Various learning skills are picked with up card games, and it easy to invent your own style and rules for playing. The most popular card game, “Go Fish” helps children recognize pairs and learn to sort the cards by color and number and type. High card, low card, solitaire, blackjack, and a variety of other games can be added and will be useful to know throughout life.

Early childhood generally encompasses the first eight years in the life of an individual. The education given during these years of a child’s life plays a very important role and helps in proper development of children. Early childhood education can be fundamentally termed as “Learning through play”. Recent research have shown that early eight years in any children life are crucial time because during this phase their brain develops and much of its ”wiring” is laid down. The education experiences and relationships a child has along with nutrition can actually affect child mental growth enormously.

Recent studies of early childhood education have even shown some remarkable success. It resulting effects on child motivation and learning power last for a long time. Today where education has become very important role to play in a society, it is not right to postpone investing in children education until they become adults, nor wait till they reach school age. In fact early childhood is a vital phase of life in terms of a child’s intellectual, emotional and social development. Besides this, the most important point to know is that the growth of mental abilities is at an astounding rate and high proportion of learning takes place during this period.

It is very important for every parent to understand that a child spends first eight years in realization of his or her own identity. These are very crucial years when children gain a sense of self and learn to associate themselves with the people around them. They develop an understanding and behavior to a certain extent. For this reason it is suggested that early childhood education during these years should be more focused on teaching children about the world around them through play and establish the links. Moreover, many child development experts also agree that play is very important in the learning and emotional development of children. A play can be multi-facet and often helps in educating different skills in children. In addition to this, education through play also helps them learn social skills, and develop values and ethics.

Certainly, today it won’t be wrong to say that early childhood education is the key element that helps in building a god foundation for child’s educational success. Every child learns habit and form patterns that are not easily changed in later years. If parents and educators can develop productive early education patterns for the children in their charge, those children will be on their way to achieving great educational success.

You want everything that your child comes in contact with to be the best that it can be.While many people view toys as something that a child merely plays with and has no importance, others understand that play is a way that your child learns. When you see children playing house or other pretend games, you can see what they have learned from watching the interactions in their home. It is important that you take playtime seriously and let your children use their imaginations, creativity and incredibly sponge like brains in a way that works best for them. Playtime is the way that children learn and reinforce what they understand about the world.

Once you understand the importance of playtime, you will begin to wonder what kind of toys to buy for your developing child. There are a few things that you should keep in mind when you are buying toys. The most important rule that you should follow is the age appropriateness rule. Even though you may believe that your child is mature beyond their years, it is vital that you choose toys that are appropriate to their age. If your child is advanced there are other ways that you can stimulate their inquisitive brain and leave the toys age appropriate.

It is possible to find toys for an advanced child that is still age appropriate. Look in the toy stores that specialize in these types of toys. Look for toys that give the child an opportunity to learn much more than just how to operate the toy. For instance, a telescope is a great toy for an inquisitive mind. They can learn all about the telescope and how it works, which is fascinating to some children. And once they understand how the telescope works, they can learn about all of the things that the telescope shows them.

Finally, the best way to determine which toys are going to be used and learned from and which ones are going to be left in the box is to talk to your child. It might be difficult with a younger child, but pay attention to the things that they enjoy. Their unique taste and style will begin to show through in no time at all. For little girls that love to play dress up, you might have a budding fashion designer on your hands.
